eSnips (a Gemini portfolio company) launched its new version. First of all, the new version is just amazing - looks good and offers excellent funcationality. Alon and his team did a great job with this product. For me the 2 key features are related to social (Ability to find related folders) and tags.
With the launch, the product was reviewed by Mike Arrington at TechCrunch. In the past I wrote about the neglection of Israeli companies on TechCrunch, but that is TOTALLY not true. In any case, Mike wrote some excellent stuff, including:
"Given the social aspects of the service, eSnips is really a content-centric social network."
and:
"I like combining media and other files with bookmarked content, and although I’m not sure if eSnips in its current form will stand out enough from the crowd, I do think they are on to something interesting. If virality kicks in from sharing, they could have a winner."
I think Mike defined it perfectly: "content-centric social network". I personally believe that such a network will be huge, and will provide great services (by search) to consumers. Gemini invested based on this dream.
Disclaimer (Again): Gemini invested in eSnips, and I am a board member in the company.
